The mayor of the Italian city of Castiglion Fiorentino, Mario Agnelli, reported an unexplained increase in the mortality rate. He stated that in the first nine days of 2026, 14 people died in the city. «This number of deaths is not within the normal rate, considering that over the entire past year, we lost 133 people,» Agnelli said. In an interview with the «Corriere Fiorentino» newspaper, he admitted that he does not know the reasons for this, noting that there was no similar increase in the mortality rate even during the COVID-19 pandemic. He continued: «We have noticed that our condolence halls are constantly overcrowded».
